Forbes just released its World’s Most Powerful Women 2019 list with German Chancellor Angela Merkel bagging its top spot. But people quickly realized that Melania Trump, wife of U.S. President Donald Trump, did not make it to the list, which includes 100 women from around the world.
Naturally, Melania Trump’s absence became a hot topic in the morning news show “Fox & Friends,” Express reported. Members of the show’s panel were outraged that the First Lady was left out.
The hosts even seemed to question why some women were included in Forbes’ list. “I want women who are recognised for actually doing good things for individuals,” one presenter said. “When we recognise women in leadership, let it be genuinely successful and really support other women.”
Unfortunately, the show’s opinion did not resonate with some of its viewers. When a clip of the show was posted on Twitter, it was Melania Trump who received criticism from netizens instead.
“They thought Melania should be on the 100 Most Powerful Women list? Melania who?” Twitter user Karen Farmer commented.
Another user, Deanna Harm, was quite vocal about why she thinks Melania should not be included. “FLOTUS has done NOTHING for our country,” Harm tweeted.
Some netizens even pointed out Donald Trump’s tweeter attacks on teenage activist Greta Thunberg as one reason why Melania should be in Forbes’ list. “Why would Melania be on a Most Powerful Women list?” a Twitter user posted. “Her big project is online bullying and she let's her husband bully teenagers on twitter.”
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, landed on the 42nd spot of the list. However, her inclusion was questioned by netizens as well.
“Offended that Ivanka is even is on the list – and before Beyonce! That is bulls***t,” a Twitter user posted.
Some users are even saying that Melania and Ivanka are basically the same. “Ivanka and Melania are houseplants,” Elva Morris commented on Twitter.
Following Angela Merkle, former IMF Chair and current European Central Bank president Christine Lagarde was ranked as the second most powerful woman based on Forbes’ list. The third spot went to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who is currently in the limelight due to Donald Trump’s angry letter.
Teenage climate change activist Greta Thunberg was also included in the ranking. She was ranked 100th in the Forbes’ list.
